Processions were taken out in all Pakistani cities and towns and the people paid homage to Hazrat Imam Hossain (P) and his companions for their supreme sacrifices in the deserts of Karbala.
Additional police and paramilitary soldiers were deployed in sensitive areas and there had been no major incident of violence in any part of Pakistan. The army was also on stand-by and alert for deployment.
It was a close holiday in Pakistan and the newspapers brought special supplements and TV channels aired special programmes to highlight the sacrifices of Imam Hossain (P).
All processions were provided full security by the police and personnel of law enforcement agencies, which passed through their traditional routes and ended at fixed destinations.
Various political parties and NGOs had specially set up camps to provide assistance to the mourners while ambulance services were also on alert all along the routes.
In the port city of Karachi, the paramilitary Pakistan Rangers and Police took special security measures and frisked all the visitors who wanted to participate in the mourning procession.
The law enforcement agencies also conducted thorough search of all the vehicles coming towards the site for mourning and also had random snap checking to prevent any terrorist activity.
In some sensitive places, helicopters also monitored the processions.
The speakers recalled the sacrifices made by the grand son of Prophet Muhammad (P) against the tyranny.
Rescue service, bomb disposal squad and ambulances of district hospitals were also standby on main points of the route.
In the southwestern city of Quetta army aviation helicopter hovered over the sky all the day for aerial surveillance of the procession. 'Sabeels' were installed for the devotees of the processions.
After having offered the Zuhar and Asar prayer processions culminated peacefully at their respective Imambargahs.
